So, here’s a weird thing about my writing process. I have trouble reading other people’s books when I’m in the middle of my own project. When I read, I get so caught up in the story, I just don’t have room in my brain for my own book. So whenever I finish writing a book, I go on a book-reading bender. Since sending in my book on Friday, I’ve read these four books:
They are all YA contemporaries. (And, that’s not the order I read them in, that’s just how the pictures popped up on the blog.) I suspect when I’m done with the Duff sometimes later tonight, I’ll be ready for a different genre. I’ve really been wanting to read The Darkness Before Dawn, by J.A. London. It was co-written by the fabulous Louraine Heath and her son and as far as I’m concerned, everything she writes is worth reading. On the other hand, maybe I need to read a straight up romance.
And suggestions? What do you like to read when you’re on a book bender?

I actually like to read historicals because I don’t read them when I’m writing for the most part. I can also go on JD Robb benders. I’ll read 2-3 of those in a row and then need a break!
Like Shana, I usually read historicals when I’m not writing. But while I’m writing I tend to favor romantic suspense (also love JD Robb) and some urban fantasy and YA. I go through reading droughts sometimes where I just can’t focus on a book and I think it probably has something to do with the fact that my brain must be subconsciously working on my own stuff and I just can’t have any additional characters joining the party. I’m in such a drought now and it’s getting tedious, I’m ready to read again.
I’m dying for a good, old-fashioned book bender–paperback after paperback lying on my nightstand and me plowing through them! Although last night I read the sample from Susan Elizabeth Phillip’s new novel, THE GREAT ESCAPE, on my Kindle Fire (the one I won at RT!!!). I want to read that SO badly, but I can’t, not until that August 1st deadline is gone.
I love the phrase BOOK BENDER…that would be a great title of a review blog or something.
